LiNing's 8th Gen Flagship Store: A Fusion of Sports and Fashion

Yingtao Xu's Award-Winning Design Combines Athleticism and Style

Yingtao Xu's design for the eighth generation flagship store of LiNing, a renowned sports brand, is a testament to the fusion of professional sports and fashion. Inspired by running tracks and basketball gyms, the store showcases a unique blend of professional sports products and fashion items, emphasizing the brand's sports attributes and fashion lifestyle.

The uniqueness of the store lies in its space design and shelf display, which create different atmospheres in various theme areas. The clear and observable layout of various categories of goods provides customers with a multi-level shopping experience. The exterior facade of the store, adorned with a colorful and bright sign, encapsulates the LiNing brand style of youth, vitality, sport, and fashion.

The interior space, decorated with simple cement materials, exudes a fashionable and personalized look, setting off the product highlights. The store shelves, made largely of metal and stainless steel with a carbon fiber texture finish, can be disassembled and recycled, minimizing resource waste. The store spans an area of 2049 square meters, making it a spacious haven for sports and fashion enthusiasts.

The store's design is not just visually appealing but also interactive. The entrance, displaying running exercise commodities, is inspired by running tracks. The RGB color-changing light belt at the top and the running models below create a dynamic display. The LED screen in the middle of the store, inspired by the LED screen at the top of a basketball gym, along with the focus display of the basketball models below, formulate the atmosphere characteristics of the basketball theme commodity exhibition.

The project, which started in December 2019 in Liuzhou and finished in May 2020, is the result of continuous development and perfection following the development of the times. The store image of the eighth generation has been enhanced and perfected in terms of decoration, gadgets, lighting, and experience systems, forming a set of dynamic and continuous store image standards.

The challenge for this project was to design a flagship store that was not cliched and still felt relatable. The design of the eighth generation of LiNing retail stores was inspired by the running track and basketball gym, which has a rich and fairly perfect standardization system. The eighth generation stores are based on professional sports and have a fashionable lifestyle. The store image is constantly enhanced, complemented, and improved, to form a set of dynamic and sustainable store image criteria.

For its innovative design and remarkable execution, the LiNing 8th Generation Flagship Store was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
